Eric Arman In the fifties Swindon began again to expand rapidly with new migration from London particularly. New housing estates were needed and this film shows the old Walcot Farm on the ground and from the air, then follows in detail the construction of the Walcot Estate and then the Lawns Estate. We also see the construction of a new water supply, reservoir and sewage works before moving to Old Town to watch the construction of Devizes Road car park necessitated by increased traffic. There are fascinating glimpses of a cycling population, then the widening of several town bridges as steam engines pass overhead
