Then And Now

Westcott Place, Mission Hall, 1920

Known locally as 'Kipper loft' due to a man named Billy Griffin using the building to dry fish delivered by the canal which ran behind the building. This photograph shows the building later when it became westcott Place Mission Hall in around 1920.The mission was led by Jack Hacker and started in 1904 by him and John Greenwood. The mission under Jacks guidence with other helpers continued through two world wars until the work was transferred to the former Methodist Chapel at William Street in 1951. Since then it has also been part of the Westcott Motors forecourt.
