Then And Now

This section of the site is provided in partnership with The Swindon Society and The Richard Jefferies Society. Regent Street looking south The Eagle Hotel to the left was closed in the early 1950's, it stood on the corner of College Street c.1950.

Bridge Street, The Golden Lion Statue, 1952

The original Golden Lion, standing in the forecourt of the Golden Lion public house by the Wilts & Berks Canal site off Bridge Street, in 1952. When the pub was closed in 1956 the lion was destroyed by accident. Another lion by Carleton Attwood was placed in Canal walk in the Silver Jubilee year 1977.
