Christ Church as viewed from Drove Road. The church was built in 1851 to replace the overcrowded Holy Rood at the lawns. Designed by Gilbert (later Sir Gilbert) Scott who also designed St Mark's at Church place(in 1843). The Martyrs' Memorial at Oxford, St Pancras station and the Albert Memorial in London were also his design. |

Faringdon Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel 1900. Sometimes known as the 'barracks' because it was originally built by the GWR as a hostel for single men. It was consecrated as a chapel in 1869. It served as the railway museum for many years, and then as the home of the New Mechanics Institution Preservation Trust which operated it as Gallery and Event centre |
