Originally Trip was for one day but then was extended to a week in 1873. By the 1930's around 26,000 employees and their families were transported to more than 250 destinations throughout Britain. About 40% of the population of Swindon took this holiday albeit unpaid until 1938. From 1946 it was extended again to two weeks holiday per year. |
