Fire had broken out in the garage of the hotel at 4.45am when the fire brigade were summoned, they fought the fire for hours finding they could not save the garage and concentrated then on the hotel itself. The exploding petrol tanks of the cars housed in the garage could be heard a long way away and the ceiling gave way and collapsed. The damage was estimated at £2,000.
