A portrait of a friend of William and Mary Hooper, Thomas Hacker shortly before he died aged 69. One of the early pioneers of the Evangelistic Mission group in Swindon helping in meetings during the dinner hour at the GWR Works and preaching in the street for which he was prosecuted. Whilst farming at Broad Hinton he suffered an accident where the horse bolted in trying to control it he fell between the horse and trap. His head passed beneath the wheels of the trap and he was scalped. Although he was overseen by a doctor and was nursed by Mary Hooper he was never the same. His health reasonable he returned to Swindon living in Merton Street and opened a haulage business.
