July 24, 2010 - 01:50
Do you have mysterious pains that float around your body? - are you under pressure? - suffering from stress? – feeling down? you may be undiagnosed but suffering with the mysterious Fibromyalgia. Go on, say it - “Fibro what?" Most people do. Phonetic pronunciation Fibro-my-al-gee-ah. What is it? Pain 24/7 which hits random parts of your body (I bet you think it is old age). Do you have awful fatigue? Do you get bad headaches, dizziness, wide away at night and cannot sleep, stumble about in the morning, and you forget even your best friend's name. You don't do mornings either if you can avoid it. Yes - you sound like a Fibromite to me. Come and have a chat at our next meeting to some like-minded people - folk who understand and we will have a few laughs about our Fibro fog and talk about this invisible condition. Ring me, Deb Davis on 0844 887 2377 12pm – 4pm (24 hours a day voicemail), email me deb.davis@swindon-fibromyalgia.co.uk and we can get together for a cuppa. Our first meeting is 16th August 2010, at Liden Community Centre 7.30pm onwards, and we will be meeting every 3rd Monday of the month ongoing. ABOUT FMA UK & SWINDON FMA UK Fibromyalgia Association UK is a registered charity, number 1042582, and is administered by unpaid volunteers. The majority of volunteers are also Fibromyalgia sufferers who work extremely hard, despite their condition, in order to forward the cause of Fibromyalgia. FMA UK was established in order to raise awareness, provide information and support to sufferers and their families. In addition, the Association provides medical information for professionals and operates a national helpline. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. The pain tends to be felt as diffuse aching or burning, often described as head to toe. It may be worse at some times than at others. It may also change location, usually becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used the most. The fatigue ranges from feeling tired, to the exhaustion of a flu-like illness. It may come and go and people can suddenly feel drained of all energy - as if someone just "pulled the plug". There are treatments available which can alleviate some of the symptoms but the majority of these are in the private sector and as most sufferers are forced into early retirement, or cannot work at all, the cost of such treatment is prohibitive. The Swindon Fibromyalgia FMA UK Support Group was launched in June 2010. Our aim is to raise awareness, provide information and support for fellow Fibromyalgia sufferers and their carers and/or loved ones. Once a month we will be meeting up in an informal and social atmosphere to discuss coping mechanisms and to generally share any concerns members may have dealing with this invisible illness. We’d like for our carers / loved ones to get together too. We tend to forget how hard it is for them too and it must be very confusing and frustrating for them. We appreciate how difficult it is to manage this condition especially as family, friends and some members of the medical profession find it so hard to comprehend. We would like to setup a newsletter for sharing our experiences and thoughts, and catalogue resources, for example, sympathetic GP’s, non-medical treatments and to make sure that people who can’t attend, get the info and support that they need.
